First Time Buyers Initiative Offers Perfect Opportunity

Alex, a Customer Service Advisor, attended the Home Ownership event in Aldershot in the spring of 2008, and discovered that the new First Time Buyer’s Initiative Scheme (FTBI) is available in Basingstoke after speaking to one of Swaythling’s Home Ownership Officers. Living in her parents home, Alex was faced with the imminent need to find alternative accommodation in the Basingstoke area as her parents were selling their property, and the FTBI scheme offered the perfect opportunity.

Alex had a financial assessment completed by an IFA, and was able to purchase a Bryant Homes (Taylor Wimpey) two bedroom house with garden and parking, with the assistance of a 50% equity loan from English Partnerships.

Alex received constant guidance from Swaythling throughout to ensure she understood the purchase process, which progressed to exchange of contracts in May 08 with completion following shortly after in June 08. The move went well and Alex is now paying a mortgage of approx. £400 per month which is well within her budget, plus the usual household bills that come with the responsibility of owning her own home.

There is no rent or charges to pay with the FTBI scheme for the first 3 years. In year 4 purchasers start to pay a charge based on the amount of equity loan; 1% year 4, 2% year 5 and 3% year 65 onwards (capped).

Securing my first home at 21 was only made possible due to the FTBI scheme which was hassle free and affordable.
