Jennifer and Bryan Welton and their two daughters moved into their spacious two bedroom house at the end of November. They had previously rented a property in Lymington and thought that the possibility of Home Ownership would be almost impossible for them until they discovered the New Build Homebuy scheme offered by Swaythling Housing Society. They both wanted to remain in the New Forest area where they had strong family and local connections. Mr & Mrs Welton were both teachers in the area and were keen to be able to live close by.

They had been registered with Homes in Hants since April and were waiting for the right property to come up which would be suitable for a young family. When they received information about the 3 properties for sale in the heart of Brockenhurst they found the homes were exactly what they were looking for. Following the viewing they arranged a mortgage through one of the independent financial advisers on Swaythling’s panel. All the paperwork went through smoothly and the day finally arrived when they could move in to their new home.

The property has a secluded garden and walkway beyond giving them access straight into the forest. Although the house has only two bedrooms they are easily big enough for the 2 girls to share a bedroom. It is also within walking distance of the town which has a good selection of shops and facilities along with the train station.

Their daughter Katie goes to school near by and Emma attends nursery school in Sway.

The value of the 2 bedroom house was originally £225,000. Through the help of Swaythling Housing’s New Build Homebuy scheme, Bryan and Jennifer purchased a 50% share and as they had a large deposit, their monthly payments came to only £825 per month (this figure includes their rent, service charge and mortgage payments). This is a fraction of what they would have to pay if they purchased a home outright on the open market – especially in the Brockenhurst area.
