A lovely new home at Bramley Fields through HomeBuy Direct

Living in a place they could call their own seemed out of reach for Claire and Chris, a young couple from Reading. Renting a one bedroom bungalow with just a single gas fire, no central heating and only a shower in a basic bathroom, they thought they would have to go through yet another cold, bleak winter, only dreaming of having somewhere they could call ‘home’.

“We had previously gone to see a mortgage advisor at our bank, and he said the only way we could afford to buy our own place would be to raise a deposit of £35,000!” says Claire. “The only way that would have been possible, would have been to ask our parents to remortgage and that was something we weren’t prepared to do”.

Claire and Chris began saving what they could each month, and started looking into other options for first time buyers. They started by searching on the internet, and came across www.homesinhants.co.uk, the website for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight’s HomeBuy Agent, HomesinHants.

“The website described all of our options if we were to buy through one of the HomeBuy schemes. HomeBuy Direct interested us the most, and we looked into where the scheme was available” says Chris.

The scheme enables first time buyers to purchase a brand new property on participating developments for 70% of the full market value. The remaining 30% is then funded jointly by the local developer and the government in the form of an equity loan. Because the scheme requires very little, or possibly no deposit (depending on your mortgage lender), it seemed perfect for them.

“We used the website to do a property search for two bedroom houses in north Hampshire, and were really pleased to find the HomeBuy Direct scheme was being run on several developments in Basingstoke” says Claire. “Although we both work in Reading, it was still a good commuting distance”.

Claire and Chris decided to look at the houses built by David Wilson Homes at the Bramley Fields development. They drove down to the development and were shown the available properties, and reserved the plot they liked the most.

“The whole process was all very easy and moved along really quickly,” says Chris. “We had a financial assessment completed to make sure it was affordable, and everything went on from there. From when we reserved to the day we moved in, it was only 8 weeks from start to finish”.

Claire and Chris now live in a spacious, well laid out, two bedroom house for less than £640 per month.

“We are so lucky. We have a lovely new home with lots of indoor and garden space; its perfect”.
