Getting cosy for the winter

The Country House Company is currently offering two delightful period cottages on the rental market which both provide wonderful character and a cosy atmosphere for the winter months.

The first, in East Meon dates from the 1690s and lies in the heart of the village. The large sitting room has a magnificent inglenook fireplace and exposed timbers and for a more intimate relaxing space the snug has a wood burning stove. The kitchen has been created from an adjoining former outbuilding and is now fitted with a range of units and has a dining area and a modern twist of bi-folding doors to the south facing terrace and garden. There is also a useful office with underfloor heating and a ground floor shower room.

Two double bedrooms and a contemporary style bathroom lead off the landing with two additional first floor bedrooms each reached via its own staircase.

A monthly rent of £1,950 is asked and the landlord may consider a well behaved pet.

An alternative cottage, this time in Hambledon, dates back even further to the time of Henry VIII and is notable for many original features. The dining hall has exposed floorboards and an inglenook fireplace with the sitting room having views to the village street and also over the walled rear garden to the downland behind. The kitchen has an Aga and a door opens to the snug.

Five good size bedrooms are arranged over the first floor, the master with a dressing area and a newly fitted bathroom; there is a further smart guest suite and a new family bathroom. Driveway parking is provided together with a garage.

Gardening is included in the monthly rent of £2,250 and there is a reduction to £2,000 for each of the six months to June 2016.
